The School

Since 2005, the Calabrese Institute of International Policies (IsCaPI) has offered students from all over the world the opportunity to learn Italian in one of the most beautiful regions of the Mediterranean, southern Italy, in the small villages that are the centers of the “Scuola della Sapienza” connected to the Pitagora Mundus Program.

IsCaPI promotes the promotion and development of knowledge of the Italian language, as a fundamental and preparatory tool for the development of a culture of international vision of the Calabrian territory.

“The Pitagora Mundus Programme is the winner of the “European Language Label” quality mark
recognized by the European Commission – Directorate-General for Multilingualism”

The Italian language and culture courses are organized within the framework of the full-immersion learning methodology of Italian as a second language, an innovative method that allows the development of socio-linguistic skills, without neglecting knowledge of grammar.
Our Italian language and culture courses are structured in 3 livelli – according to the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe:

  • Elementary Course (MCER – A1/A2)
  • Corso Intermedio (MCER – B1/B2)
  • Corso Avanzato (MCER – C1/C2)

Our philosophy

“We guide and support our students in developing their interpersonal skills and give them space for personality development.
We encourage our students to set realistic goals and support them in becoming increasingly independent problem solvers.
In short: we encourage the personality development and growth of our students.”

Our Method

Through the full immersion method, the courses combine frontal teaching with educational-cultural paths divided into thematic areas of reference and personalized to the needs of individual students.

Classes are made up of a minimum of 9 and a maximum of 15 students, to avoid creating large classes that do not allow for personalized work.
The contents of the courses are presented through communicative training methodologies in consideration of the action-oriented approach (Council of Europe, 2001), the task-based approach and the objective-centred approach; these methodologies provide for innovative linguistic teaching based on the acquisition of specific linguistic skills oriented to the different areas of competence.

The lessons in the classroom

Our teaching method is based on a constructive, communicative and interactive approach that allows students to acquire knowledge and improve their Italian language skills and basic grammar, as well as achieving a high enrichment of vocabulary in a stimulating, practical and fun environment.

Lessons outside the classroom

After the language courses that take place during the morning, students have the opportunity to participate in a series of activities and excursions that are part of the lessons on the culture of Italy, renowned for its art, history, architecture and its many unique attractions, as well as for its food, wine, lifestyle, painting, design, music and literature.
Through the “full immersion” methodology, students gain direct knowledge of Italian culture by participating in cultural activities and events typical of the regions of southern Italy.
